Step 1: How to Discover your Passion Points
When speaking to friends, colleagues, and mentors, you often hear the words, “Follow your passion,” and I am a huge advocate of that.
I firmly believe that if you LOVE what you do and know that you are making an impact, you will be able to put your whole self into your to work, your side hustle, or your new project each and every day.
Passion points can also include things that you are interested in learning more about. Curiosity and persistence are the keys to exploring new opportunities and stepping outside of your comfort zone.
I believe that people’s passions can evolve as they encounter new experiences and are exposed to different perspectives throughout their lives. So always keep an open mind and allow yourself room to foster and explore new passions.
When I was young, I remember that my parents’ friends would often ask me:
What do you want to be when you grow up?
My answer, each and every time with conviction, was, “A LEADER in Corporate America”. I even had my very own office in a small closet off my parent’s kitchen. As a Cuban immigrant, the American Dream is something that my family and I have always pursued. They brought me to this country so that I would have the opportunities and I’ve always felt that it was my responsibility MAKE IT HAPPEN FOR THEM. ←— This was and is my DRIVER.
Starting very early on in my career, I have always jumped at every opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and take calculated, risks in order to chase my dreams. At the age of 29, I am proud to say that I have moved cross-country on 3 separate occasions (Miami to LA, LA to NYC, & NYC to LA) and I’ve appreciated every minute of the journey. Today I work for one of the largest entertainment companies in the world and am the CMO of this amazing community of Millennial Women, Inc.
One of my biggest passion points is Marketing. That became clear to me when I was young and would see commercials on TV that spoke to me in a personal way. How is it that they could make a piece of content that was so perfectly tailored to me?
Whenever I see that feel-good, change-the-world-type of advertising, it reminds me why I decided to make my career as a marketing maven. Joining those social conversations through marketing simultaneously makes me feel powerful and yet also like I have a responsibility to help create real change. Thanks to social media, we can now all join that conversation seamlessly, which gives everyone a voice, and that’s exciting for me.
So how can YOU figure out what your passion points are? We here at Millennial Women, Inc. have created a little exercise to help you put pen to paper and figure out what gets you out of bed in the morning: The Millennial Women Passion Point Diagram.
The key below is in the first box: passion point”s”. So we recommend for you to do this exercise for 2-3 passions you have in mind or want to explore.
Feel free to DM me at @dayana_falcon_ if you get stuck or have any questions.
